Paint a Fish is the first action of “Friends of the Baltic”, a new educational programme in Poland. Our Earth Foundation, a Polish NGO are hosting over 250 schools in its new Baltic educational campaign aimed at encouraging children to engage in marine conservation issues. Fish related pictures, photos and poems collected from schools will be delivered to the Polish Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Stanislaw Kalemba and the deputy minister Mr. Kazimierz Plocke on May 10, calling on them to end overfishing in European seas.

A festival by OCEAN2012 Ireland to raise awareness of the need to end overfishing now. Activities will include fish chalk drawing, face painting and a fish parade. Download the invitation or visit the Facebook event page.

At a breakfast hosted by Struan Stevenson, James Brown, first secretary to New Zealand’s mission to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and a leading negotiator on international fisheries subsidies, spoke to a group of MEPs and representatives from member states and the Commission. He raised concerns that although the EU has committed to end capacity-enhancing subsidies at the UN, MEPs are discussing vessel construction aid  in the current negotiations in the European Parliament and Council on the new European Maritime and Fisheries Fund.

Viele Kinder haben den spannenden Film "Stoppt die Überfischung" von Uli Henrik Streckenbach gesehen und sich mit Kreativität und Farben gegen die Überfischung der Meere eingesetzt. Die tollsten gemalten Filmplakate werden auf der Preisverleihung des Poster-Wettbewerbs von den Meeresbürgern, der Deutsche Umwelthilfe e.V. und OCEAN2012 im Rahmen des Darsser Naturfilmfestival im Stralsunder OZEANEUM geehrt.

Archipelagos will visit the Samos High Schools in Vathi in order to inform students, teachers, local authorities and parents about overfishing and its effects to their local community.
