Conference looks at ways to spend new EMFF

MEPs are in the midst of preparing for the Fisheries Committee vote, scheduled late May, on the new European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF), which will govern how to spend more than €6 billion on fisheries in the period 2014 to 2020.

Mehr als 200 Organisationen fordern zügiges Ende der Überfischung in Europa

Bundesministerin Ilse Aigner (CSU) und ihre EU-Kollegen müssen für den Wiederaufbau der europäischen Fischbestände bis 2020 sorgen. Mit einem offenen Brief haben sich am heutigen Mittwoch 217 Organisationen aus ganz Europa an die Fischereiminister der Europäischen Union gewandt. Sie fordern ein zügiges Ende der Überfischung und den Wiederaufbau der Bestände bis 2020. Die Verhandlungen über die Reform der Gemeinsamen Fischereipolitik (GFP) erreichen derzeit die letzte und entscheidende Phase. Im Juni 2013 sollen sie zum Abschluss kommen.

Coveney says commitment already made to end overfishing

The Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine said that he has already committed to end overfishing in EU waters by 2015 - where possible. It comes as wildlife and environmental groups call for him to support their campaign to end the practice, so that fish stocks can return to sustainable levels.

Plus de 200 ONG demandent à l'Europe de soutenir une pêche durable

Plus de 200 organisations environnementales, dont Greenpeace, Pew, Oceana ou WWF, ont annoncé jeudi avoir écrit aux ministres européens de la Pêche pour leur demander de s'engager en faveur de pratiques plus durables dans le cadre des discussions sur la réforme de la politique commune de la pêche. Dans un courrier envoyé à tous les ministres, les organisations leur demandent «instamment» «de soutenir l'objectif fixé par le Parlement européen de restaurer les stocks de poissons d'ici 2020 et de mettre fin à la surpêche d'ici 2015».
